Bad brain

The following headline has been cracking my shit up all day long, over at the NY Times website.

marines miss january copy.jpg

I have misparsed it every single time I have looked at the page. And then I'm like, "Goal? Is goal a verb? Oh."

Does that mean they are giving Miss January to the new recruits? Well that is one way to increase thier numbers.

I parse it by putting a mental apostrophe after "Marines." That doesn't sound like a recruiting enticement.

This may sound sexist (and in fact may be sexist), but the Marines' Miss January would kick my ass and that is scarier than it is sexy. Of course the tough dudes in the Marines may like the challenge.
