Yes, it's my birthday today, and you can celebrate in the traditional fashion: by solving one of my crosswords and extravagantly praising how clever it is. My latest Onion puzzle is out today, and, in honor of the date, is a little loopier than usual. And I never posted a link to my previous Onion puzzle, but here that is too. (Download Across Lite to open the files, if'n you ain't done that already.)
Speaking of me (as I sometimes do), my friend Joshua Kosman recently passed along a newspaper clipping which he felt I would enjoy, which you can see here if you scroll all the way down the page, but this is the relevant bit:
Public Eavesdropping
"He's not nearly attractive enough to be a Francis."
Young woman to pal, overheard in North Beach by Stephen Prinz, and congratulations to all Francises, for whom this will be reason to rejoice
Rejoice? But that just seems like gloating.
Posted by Francis at 12:59 AMWell, all Francises except that one in North Beach. Many Happy Returns of the Day to you, though--she hadn't started talking about you yet.
Thanks,
-V.
just did your onion puz. fantastic! one of the cleverest themes i've seen all year.
Posted by: joon at April 1, 2009 11:04 AMHow, all these years, have I missed the fact that your birthday is April Fool's Day?
That brings great joy to me.
Happy Birthday. No Fooling.

Posted by: -bc (Haineux) at April 2, 2009 12:38 PMA week-plus late, but D has a value of 2 in Scrabble, so the clue for 48-Down is inaccurate. Nice puzzle.
