"Resisting arrest" is always a good one
You don't need me to tell you that things are totally crazy in Pakistan right now, but I did want to share this quote from the latest New York Times article about the situation:
A senior police official, Aftab Cheema, told the Associated Press that [opposition politican Imran] Khan is being held at an undisclosed location, and will be charged with crimes yet to be determined.
"We'll figure something out," Mr. Cheema did not go on to say.
Posted by Francis at 11:26 AMHey Francis - I hadn't checked your blog for a while and noticed no comments on this terrific, noncommital quote - I was deeply saddened! They might have to:
1. Round up the usual suspects to get proper evidence against him
2. Consult the out-of-work lawyers on what types of offenses one could charge a person with - hypothetically... (probably won't have to go very far to find an ex-lawyer - say, the cell next to the one in the undisclosed place in question)
It puts me in mind of our own, mostly-non-martial law state, where police are wont to say things like "The alleged perpetrator of the purported felonious activity was said to have been seen allegedly leaving the premises on the night of the perpetration at approximately 7:35 PM, on the evening of July the 12th, 2007 - the night of the alleged offense by the perpetrator, now in custody and awaiting arraignment. The assistant to the the assistant DA in the District Attorney's office will reportedly be expected to hand up the arraignment to the alleged perpetrator of the purported offense and call a grand jury for hearing the case against the felonious perpetrator - who allegedly perpetrated the offense and is being held for questioning"
