Is there any lower art form than the filk? Perhaps not, but nonetheless, Jason Falkner's cover of "Photograph" (the Def Leppard song) came up on my MP3 player while I was jogging in the park this morning, and -- well, you remember how it goes, right?
I'm outta luck, outta love
Got a photograph, picture of
Passion killer, you're too much
You're the only one I wanna touch
I see your face everytime I dream
On every page, every magazine
So wild, so free, so far from me
You're all I want, my fantasyOh, look what you've done to this rock and roll clown
Oh, look what you've donePhotograph, I don't want your
Photograph, I don't need your
Photograph, all I've got is a photograph
But it's not enough
You've gone straight to my head
So anyway, I couldn't stop myself.
I'm doing science, I'm in a lab
Piece of equipment, I wanna grab
Metal turret, you're too much
You're the only thing I wanna touch
I dream of you when I'm lying in bed
And of looking like Eraserhead
So sleek, so tall, with a metal ball
On top, you rock, I'm in your thrallOh, look what you've done to my nicely coiffed head
Oh, look what you've doneVan der Graaf generator
Van der Graaf, static maker
Van der Graaf, I put my hand on the Van der Graaf
And it's such a rush
You go straight to my hair!
I'm so sorry.
Posted by Francis at 09:33 AMWorking on your next book, are you?
My husband is reading Samuel Beckett's "Bake Me Cutlets" this very moment...
Posted by: Orange at August 20, 2005 12:08 PMI have nothing to say except that I really love that cover. And perhaps you should submit that filk to the science songs website?
Posted by: Erin at August 20, 2005 09:43 PMIt's you! You're where I got the inspiration for my faux-boobie poems on Friday! Um, does that make you my muse?
And I laughed so hard at the Van der Graaf song that I swallowed some spit and choked. Now THAT'S funny!
Posted by: Mona Buonanotte at August 21, 2005 02:30 PMWhat a lot of people don't realize is that those are also the original lyrics as written by Def Leppard. Their record label didn't think it was marketable and made them change it.
Posted by: Billy Joel at August 22, 2005 01:13 AMThis almost inspired me to write "Tesla Coils" to the tune of "Jessie's Girl". Almost.
