Is this reviewer being funny, or is he seriously the last person on the planet to realize that maybe bands like Franz Ferdinand and the Killers and the Bravery, entertaining as they may be, are perhaps a teensy bit derivative of '80s new wave bands?
Posted by Francis at 02:29 PM"So while a couple listens through New Waves may make you feel a bit like an idiot for having loudly trumpeted the fresh sound of Franz Ferdinand to your friends last year...."
Um, so who was it exactly that "loudly trumpeted" these "fresh sounds"?
Only an idiot, I suspect, and a charlatan of a reviewer. Me, I just turned 'em up and counted my blessings grunge hasn't spawned any derivatives (yet.)
the last line of the review?

One can't help but listen to a collection like this one without coming to a handful of shocking realizations about those flavors-of-the-moment I've done my part to hype-- turns out they're not making such an original statement after all.Posted by: Francis at July 22, 2005 03:07 PM
Wow... I like those bands a lot, don't get me wrong, but it's so obvious how derivative they are that even to call them derivative is almost a cliche. Sun = yellow. Grass = green. Interpol = Joy Division. BMRC = Jesus + Mary Chain.
