I like to read on the Internet

Doug at PlanetGordon has a new gig as a New York-centric advice maven. The current question is one that Rose has often asked me: "Doesn't the noise the subway makes as it pulls out of the station sound just like the opening notes of "Somewhere" from West Side Story?"

At my last job, there was a hi-tech color printer that made a sound just like a series of notes from Elvis Costello's "Watching the Detectives". I heard it every single time. I never asked anybody else if they heard it, because I didn't want them to think I was insane.

Thanks for the plug! Apparently trains in London's Tube play a variety of songs...all coincidentally, of course. New Yorkers get stuck with one show tune. Bummer.

At least it's a good show tune. It could've been something from "Cats".
